THE CORRELATION OF READING HABIT WITH BIOLOGY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF VIII GRADE STUDENTS AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 4 SUTERA OF PESISIR SELATAN REGENCY
Abstrak
Reading habit is related to students’ learning outcomes. The objective of this research is to determine the correlation of reading habit of biology materials with biology learning outcomes of the junior high school 4 students of Sutera of Pesisir Selatan regency. Type of the research is descriptive. The population is all students who are registered in 2014/2015 learning season. They consist of 7 class they are VIII1, VIII2, VIII3, VIII4, VIII5, VIII6, VIII7 with the number of whole students is 195 students and 135 samples. The data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression test with questionnaire. It was got the overall average score that 80% students’ reading method belongs to good category. 80% of reading timing determining of biology book belongs to good category. 100% of students’ reading technique belongs to very good category. 50% of making marks or notes in reading belongs to fair category. 50% of reading concentration of the students belongs to fair category. The research findings showed that regression coefficient of reading habit is positive (r= 0.108 and p= 0.000). There is a correlation between reading habit and students’ biology learning outcomes. Based on hypothesis test , it was got significance value less than alpha 0.05 (p= 0.000) for reading habit variable. So, it can concluded that reading habit is related positively to learning outcomes.
