AN ANALYSIS OF THE FOURTH YEAR STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN TRANSLATING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT FROM ENGLISH TO INDONESIAN AT THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
This research aimed at describing the students’ errors in translating descriptive text from English to Indonesian at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive. The population of this research was the fourth year students at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The number of population members of this research was 114 students. They were divided into three classes: A, B, and C. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique, and the number of the sample members was 20 students.The instrument used to get the data was a translation test. The time given was 60 minutes. To find the reliability, this research used inter rater method. It means that there were two scorers and it was found that the reliability index of this test was .89 Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the students’ had no errors. It was proved by the fact that there were 0% students who had errors in syntactic aspect. Then, there were 35% students who had errors in referential meaning. Finally, there were 0% students who had errors in organizational meaning.
