GAYA BAHASA UNGKAPAN KIASAN MASYARAKAT MINANGKABAU DAN APLIKASINYA DI NAGARI GUNUNG PADANG ALAI KECAMATAN V KOTO TIMUR KABUPATEN PADANG PARIAMAN

Abstrak

The purpose of this study is to describe the language style and the application of figurative expressions of Minangkabaunese community in Kenagarian Gunung Padang Alai Kecamatan V Koto Timur Kabupaten Padang Pariaman. The theories used are the opinion of Octavianus (2012) on Figurative Language, Keraf (2009) about Language Style, and Chaer (2009) on Meaning. The research is a qualitative  research by using descriptive method. The Informants in this study were  six people. Based on data analysis noted the following matters, figurative language  consisted of 9 stylistic  forms: 1 datum belonged to contradiction, 17 data belonged to paradox, 6 data belonged to simile, 21 data belonged to metaphor, 4 data belonged to semi-personification, 1 datum belonged depersonification , 1 datum belonged antithesis, 4 data belonged to repetition and 10 data belonged to both sarcasm and cynicism. In addition, there were many meanings regarding to figurative language used in Padang Alai community, however advice was the most dominant one. Based on its function, there were 53 words being used such as alah tampak kaki ula, angek pulo tadah pado galeh, arang tacoreang di kaniang, 4 data which are rarely used such as jauah panggang dari api, lain nan sakik lain nan diubek, and 6 data which never be used such as makan tangan urang tu, mambasuah muko jo aia liue. Thus, based on the analsys, it can be concluded that Gunung Padang Alai community are still using figurative language.
