AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING SENTENCES USING DEGREES OF COMPARISON BASED ON PICTURES AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The purpose of this research generally was to find out the second year students’ ability in writing sentences using degrees of comparison based on pictures at English Department of Bung Hatta University. This research was designed as a descriptive reasearch. The total population of members was 48 students. The researcher used total sampling technique to select the sample. The instrument used to get the data was writing test. The result of data analysis showed that the second year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University had very good ability in writing degrees of comparison based on pictures. It was proved by the fact that there were 31 students (64.58%) who had very good ability. There were 14 students (29.17%) who had good ability. There was 1 student (2.08%) who had moderate ability, and there were 2 students (4.17%) who had bad ability. Based on the result, the researcher suggests English lecturers to defend it and give enrichment about degrees of comparison. The lecturers are also expected to give more explanation about irregular adjectives of comparison. For the students, the researcher suggests that they must pay attention to mechanism of writing especially punctuation and capitalization.
