ANALISIS KESULITAN SISWA DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL MATEMATIKA KELAS VIII SMP KARTIKA I-7 PADANG

Abstract

This research is based on the difficulties of students in solving math problem. In addition, according to daily math test scores of VIII grade at SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang in the academic year 2015/2016, there are still many under the KKM. For these reason, it is necessary to analyze the difficulties experienced by students and describe the factors that cause students to experience the difficulties. The aim of this research is: 1) to analyze the difficulties that students have at VIII grade of SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang in solving math problem, 2) to describe the factors that cause the students VIII grade of SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang in solving math problem. The type of this research is a descriptive research and using the qualitative research methods. The research population is the whole members of students VIII grade of SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang. To select the sample using purposive sampling and class VIII₂ is selected as the sample. The instruments of this research are diagnostic test and interview. The result of research shows that: 1) students who have concept difficulty is 40,74%, 2) students who have principle difficulty is 29,62%, 3) algorithm difficulty is 96,30%, 4) concept and principle difficulty are 0%, 5) principle and algorithm are 0%, 6) concept and algorithm are 11,11%, and 7) students who have concept, principle, and algorithm difficulty are 29,62%. Factors that cause students difficulties are: 1) individual factors such as intelligence, learning strategy, and physiological condition, 2) social factors such as the way teachers teach, learning facility, relationship with friend, and relationship with parent/family.
