AN ANALYSIS OF THE THIRD YEAR STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO PREDICT OUTCOME IN READING NARRATIVE TEXT AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The aim of this study was to describe the students’ ability to predict outcome in reading narrative text. The design of this research was descriptive method. The total members of this population were 54 students. The researcher used total sampling techniques to select the sample. The data of this study were gathered using reading test in the form of multiple choice. Based on the result of analyzing data, it was found that 46.30 % students had bad ability in predicting outcome of information in orientation of narrative text, 35.18 % students had bad ability in predicting outcome of information in complication of narrative text, and 53.70 % students had very good ability in predicting outcome of information in resolution of narrative text. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the ability of the third year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University was bad. In line with this conclusion, the lecturer are suggested to explain more comprehensively about the material of predicting outcome of information about narrative text to improve students ability to predicting outcome the text, the students are suggested to learn and do more exercise in predict outcome of narrative text and the next researcher is suggested to do relevant research form different point of view and another kind of text.
