PENINGKATAN AKTIVITAS DAN HASIL BELAJAR SISWA PADA PEMBELAJARAN IPA DENGAN MODEL DIRECT INSTRUCTION DI KELAS VA SD NEGERI 35 PAGAMBIRAN PADANG

Abstract
This research was motivated by the lack of activity of discussion, writing stories and writing tasks in learning science and poor cognitive achievement of students (level of understanding)  at VA grade classroom SD Negeri 35 Pagambiran Padang. The purpose of this study was to describe the increase in the activity of the discussion, writing stories and tasks, as well as cognitive learning outcomes of students in learning science by using the Direct Instruction method in class VA of SD Negeri 35 Pagambiran Padang. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings. Subjects of this study were graders  totalling 31 people. The instruments used were observation sheet of teacher learning activities, student activity observation sheet and test sheet at end of the cycle. Results showed activity discussions with the average score in the cycle I was 33.86%, while in cycle II reached 83.87%. Activities task with a score in the cycle I was 37.09%, while in cycle II reached 82.25%. Furthermore, the activity of writing stories with a score in the cycle I was 67.74%, while in cycle II reached 80.64%. Improved cognitive learning outcomes of students in the cycle I was at the with an average value of 77.58  with a  students learning completeness by 48.37%, increased in the second cycle with an average value of 82.25 with students learning completeness 83.3%. From these results, it is concluded that the activity and student learning outcomes in science learning can be enhanced with the model of Direct Instruction. Based on this study, researchers suggested that teachers can use the Direct Instruction method to enhance the activity and student learning outcomes.
