ANALISIS KESALAHAN DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL CERITA MATEMATIKA BERDASARKAN NEWMAN’S ERROR ANALYSIS PADA SISWA KELAS VIII SMPN 27 PADANG

Abstract

 

This research aims to analyze the student’s error in doing real problems and to describe the factors that lead the student make mistakes in doing mathematical story problems using  Newman’s Error Analysis. This research used a qualitative approach and the type of research is descriptive. Used in this research were 29 student in eighth grade students of Junior High School 27 Padang E school. Data collection was performed by the method of testing and interviews. Based on the results of the data analysis we concluded that (1) by 89,66% of students make the mistake of reading matter, the form can not illustrate the picture correctly, (2) by 89,66% of students do understand about the error, with no write what is known and what in question (3) by 24,14% of students made a mistake about the transformation, in the form of misuse of formula (4) by 34,48% of students make the mistake of process skills, such as errors in the calculation and (5) by 72,41% of students make the mistake of writing the final answer, the form error writing about the conclusion.The factors that cause students to make mistakes can be grouped into two problems: 1) problems in linguistic fluency and conceptual understanding that correspond with level of simple reading and understanding meaning of problems, 2) problems in mathematical processing.
