AN ANALYSIS ON THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN WRITING COMPLEX PAST SENTENCE AT THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY
Abstrak
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to find out the second year students’ errors in writing complex past sentences at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The population was 48 students. The researcher used total sampling to select the sample and the total number of sample members was 48 students. The instrument used to get the data was the writing sentences test. To know the reliability index of the test. The researcher used inter-rater technique. It was found that the reliability index of the test was 0.82. It means the test was reliable. The result of analyzing data showed there were errors made by the second year students errors in writing complex past sentence. The researcher divided students errors made by those students into four types. It was proved by the findings that 19,53% students’ errors in omission, 8,75% students’ errors in addition, 7,08% students’ errors in misformation, 3,75% students’ errors in misordering. Based on the result of this researcher, the researcher concluded that the second year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University made students errors in writing complex past sentences. Dealing with the conclusions, the researcher suggests to the students to improve their ability in learn more about types of errors, especially in writing complex past sentences. For the next researcher, the researcher suggests to find out and analyze the factors that influence students’ errors in writing complex past sentences.
