ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN HUBUNGAN MATEMATIS SISWA KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 31 PADANG

Abstract

This research was motivated because the students not understand the concepts and procedures in problem solving mathematics that cause students incorrect in finishing question. This study aims to (1) describe the ability of students about mathematical connections in class VIII SMP Negeri 31 Padang, (2) identify the mistakes students in solving question mathematical connection, and (3) describe the causes students of the difficulties in solving mathematical connections. This research is a descriptive study, the study sample based on the purposive sampling technique.The results showed that: First, the ability of the students about the mathematical connection based indicators (1) find the connection of various representations of concepts and procedures is a 77%, (2) understand the connection between different mathematical topics is 88%, (3) use mathematics in other subjects or everyday life is 75%, (4) understand the representation to the same concept is 80%, (5) find the connection one procedure to another procedure in the representation same is 74%, (6) the connection between mathematical topics, and between math topics with other topics is 92%. Second, Mistakes made by students based indicators (1) find the connection of various representations of concepts and procedures is 23%, (2) understand the connection between different mathematical topics is 12%, (3) use mathematics in other subjects or everyday life is 25%, (4) understand the representation to the same concept is 20%, (5) find the connection one procedure to another procedure in the representation same is 26%, (6) the connection between mathematical topics, and between math topics with other topics is 8%. Third, the cause of the difficulties students in solving mathematical connection from the factor of teacher and student.
