Abstrak

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of inquiry method toward the students’ ability in analyzing traveling report based on their listening at VII Grade of SMPN2 Rao Utara Sumatera Barat. The theories that were used were Suharyono (1991) and Roestyah (2012) about inquiry method and Tarigan (1986) about writing traveling report. The type of this research was quantitative research. The data of this research was obtained from pretest and posttest in experiment and control class. After collecting the data, the data were analyzed by using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis test. The result of analysis showed that first, the average score of posttest after getting treatment was 92 while in the pretest was 74 before getting treatment. The differences of average score were 18. Based on the t-test in hypothesis I, it was obtained that tcount=4.81with the value of significant was 5%, ttable=1.697 so tcount>ttable thus H0 was denied. Second, the students’ average score in experiment class was 92 and control class was 74. The differences of average score were 18. Based on the t-test in hypothesis II, it was obtained that tcount=4.08with the value of significant was 5%, ttable=1.645 so tcount>ttable thus H0 was denied. Based on the hypothesis test analysis, it was found that there were significant differences between the learning output of the students’ ability in analyzing traveling report that were taught by using inquiry method and the students that were taught by using expository method at VII Grade Students of SMPN 2 Rao Utara Kabupaten Pasaman. Based on the result of hypothesis test, it was proved that the implementation of inquiry method has a significant effect toward the learning output.
