Abstrak

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research was to describe the meaning and its relationship with tone and atmosphere of poetry collection “Doa Mohon Kutukan” written by Emha Ainun Najib. There were eight poetries that were examined. They are “Doa Merapi”, “Hati Semesta”, “Kudekap Kusayang-sayang” and “Aku Belajar Menulis Puisi”. The literatures refer to theories of meaning suggested by Abdul Chaer (1995) and theories of tone and atmosphere suggested by Heman, J. Waluyo (1987 and 2003). This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. The object of this research was about meaning, tone, atmosphere and the relationship between meaning, tone and atmosphere of poetry “Doa Mohon Kutukan” written by Emha Ainun Najib. The result of analysis showed that first, it was found 83 figurative data, 83 connotative data, 67 denotative data, 66 referential data, 83 non-referential data. Second, the tone that was found in the poetry is protest tone (1 poetry), cynical tone (2 poetries), sarcasm tone (1 poetry), and advice tone (4 poetries). The atmosphere that was found in the poetry is sentimental (3 poetries), disappointed (3 poetries) and amazed (2 poetries). Third, the relationship between meaning, tone and atmosphere are (1) the denotative meaning and connotative is related to an anger toward injustice and unpleasant with government, (2) the figurative meaning is related to a protest unpleasantly to stakeholder, (3) the connotative and denotative meaning are related to thankfulness to the God for his creations by showing amazed feelings toward his creation, (4) the denotative and connotative meaning are related to sincerity, she lets her pain and healthy in order of the God by advising that human should be faithful and obedient, (5) the figurative meaning is related to human that they should appreciate the available times, (6) the referential and non-referential meaning are related to advice that human should not remember the time elapsed, (7) referential and non-referential meaning are related to giving advice that human should never ignore the people who want to help us, (8) the figurative meaning is related to protest disappointedly to the government who ignores the people rights.
