Abstrak

Abstract

 

The aimed of this research was to describe the vocabulary of Malay language and its use in communication of the society of VII Koto Ilir district, Tebo, Jambi Province, a lexical semantics assessment. The theory used in this research are:  Semantic proposed by Chaer (2009), Types of vocabulary proposed by Kridalaksana (1990), and Manaf (2010) about the semantics of Indonesian. The type of this research is qualitative by using descriptive method proposed by Moleong (2010). Data were analyzed by using the selecting technique and identified the vocabulary which appropriate with the aspects of the research, described the vocabulary in accordance with the actual situation based on the purpose of the research, analyzed and classified the vocabulary that has been collected based on the aspects of the research, and made conclusions based on the results of the research. The instrument of this research was the researcher which is equipped with mobile phone to interview the informant. Data were collected through recording interviews in VII Koto Ilir district, Tebo, Jambi province, which there were some selected topic to be discussed for every village. The data analysis based on the vocabulary and meaning showed that there were 99 vocabulary, they are: (1) verb about 21 data (2) adjective about 19 data (3) noun about 21 data (4) numeral about 1 data (5) adverbs about 29 data (6) interrogative about 2 data, and (7) conjunction about 6 data. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that the characteristics of vocabulary to communicate of the communities in this research is the vocabulary of monosyllabic seemed no more used in the Malay language, such as loops, no, muh, boy, tub, and suk.
