THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ SELF-REGULATED LEARNING AND THEIR VOCABULARY MASTERY TOWARD THEIR ABILITY IN WRITING SIMPLE SENTENCE OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMP NEGERI 40 PADANG

ABSTRACT

This research was aimed to find out the correlation between students’ self-regulted learning and their vocabulary mastery toward their ability in writing simple sentence of simple present tense at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 40 Padang. The number of population members was 101 students. there were distributed into three classes. The researcher took sample by using convinience sampling. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that students’ self-regulated learning was moderate (73.33%), the students’ vocabulary mastery was moderate (70%) and the students’ ability in writing simple sentence of simple present tense was mderate (76.67%). The researcher found that the value of coefficient correlation between; 1) self-regulated learning and writing was 0.333 with Ttable =2.048 (α 0.05) and df = n-2 (28)  and 2) vocabulary and writing was 0.749 with Ttable =2.048 (α 0.05) and df = n-2 (28). Between students’ self-regulated learning, their vocabulary mastery and their ability in wiriting simple sentence of simple present tense was 0.750 and fcounted was 17.56 (α 0.05) and df = n-k-1 (27), value ftable was 3.35. Therefore, the relationship between three variables, self-regulated learning, vocabulary mastery and ability in writing simple sentence of simple present tense was  a significance. It was considered  that the null hypotheses (H0) is rejected that there is no significant correlation between students’ self-regulated learning and their vocabulary  mastery toward their ability in writing simple sentence of simple present tense at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 40 Padang. (Ha) is accepted that there is a significant correlation between students’ self-regulated learning and their vocabulary  mastery toward their ability in writing simple sentence of simple present tense at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 40 Padang. in conclusion,if the students’ self-regulated learning will be high, vocabulary mastery will be good and writing ability will be good.
