Abstrak
Abstract
The purpose of this research was to describe the difficulties faced by the second grade students of SMAN 1 Pelepat Muara Bungo Jambi in writing narrative text dealing with content: orientation, complication and resolution. The design of this research was descriptive in nature. The total population were 56 students. They were distributed into two classes (class IPA and Class IPS). The researcher took 56 students as the sample by using total sampling from two classes as population was chosen as a sample in this research. The researcher found the reliability of the test by using inter-rater technique. It was found that the coefficient correlation was very high (.93) (see Appendix 7). It means that the result of test was reliable. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found that 34 students (60.71%) (see Appendix 8) out of 56 students had difficulties in writing narrative text. In specific, there were 45 students (80.36%)(see Appendix 9) out of 56 students who had difficulties in writing orientation. There were 37 students (66.07%) (see Appendix 10) out of 56 students who had no difficulties in writing complication and 37 students (66.07%)(see Appendix 10) who had difficulties in writing resolution. Based on the findings above, the researcher suggested to the English teachers to give more explanations and exercises to the students about writing narrative text. The students are suggested to pay more attention when the teacher explains about the lesson, and do more practice in writing narrative text.
