AN ANALYSIS OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING NEWS ITEM TEXT USING MIND MAP TECHNIQUE AT SMA NEGERI 3 KERINCI

Abstract
The purpose of this research was aimed to describe the ability of tenth grade students’ ability in writing news item text by using mind map technique at SMA NEGRI 3 KERINCI. The design of this research was descriptive. The number of members of population of this research was 137 students’. They were devided into 5 classes ; A1, A2, A3, A4, A5. The sample of this research were 27 students’. The researcher used cluster random sampling to took the sample, and the sample of this research was A5 that had 19,42% of the population. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test form. The researcher found that the reliability of the test is 0.99. The result of this research showed that the ability of the tenth grade students of SMA NEGERI 3 KERINCI in writing news item text using mind map technique was moderate. The result of analyzing data of the writing test showed that 15 students’(55.5%) got moderate abilty. Spesifically, from analyzing the data there were 14 students’ (51.85%) in writing content, 18 students’ (66.6%) in using language feature, 23 students’ (85.185%) in using appropriate vocabulary, and 20 students’ (74%) in applying mechanics in writing news item text using mind mapping. It can be concluded that the students’ ability of SMA NEGERI 3 KERINCI in writing news item text using mind maping was moderate.
