AN ANALYSIS ON THE FIRST GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO WRITE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT USING PICTURE AT SMKN 1 PADANG

Abstract

The purpose of this research was aimed to describe the ability on thefirst grade students’ ability to write descriptive using picture at SMK NEGERI 1 PADANG. The design of this research was descriptive. The number of members of population of this research was 544 students. The y were divided into four group into four difference group; technique construction, technique electronic, technique machine and technique venicle. Each group population consist of some classes. The sample of this research were 88 students. The researcher used stratified random sampling to took the sample, and the sample of this research was 30% of the population. In collecting data, the writing used writing test form. The research found that the reliability of the test is 0.90. the result of this research showed that the ability on the first grade students’ ability to write descriptive text using picture was moderate. The result of analyzing data of the writing test showed that 63 students’(71.59%) got moderate ability. Specifically, from analyzing the data there were 57 students’(64.77%) to wite identification, 64 students’ (72.72%) to write description, 65 students’(73.86%) to use language features, 59 students’(67.04%) to use vocabulary, and 62 students’(70.45%) to use mechanics. It can be concluded that the students’ ability of SMK NEGERI 1 PADANG to write descriptive text using picture was moderate.
