ABSTRACT
This study aimed to describe the form of lexical, grammatical and contextual utterances of judges and witnesses in proceedings in the District Court of Padang. The trial of criminal cases in the District Court of Padang. The theory is used to analyze the semantic meaning of utterances of judges and witnesses is a theory proposed by Abdul Chaer (2009) as well as several other supporting theories about the semantic meaning. This research is a qualitative research that produced the data utterances that contain the semantic meaning that the object of research. The data in this study is the speech of judges and witnesses in the trial. The method used is the method deskripstif that is the way to identify, classify, analyze, interpret data, report data analysis and concluded data. Analysis of the data shows the semantic meaning of lexical, grammatical and contextual found in the speech of judges and witnesses. Based on the results, it can know that the speech of judges and witnesses in proceedings in the District Court of Padang dominant semantic meaning is the meaning of lexical semantics used in the trial because the judge and witnesses of criminal cases predominantly use lexical meaning which can be generally known by opponents said. It can be concluded that in a speech the judge and the witness found the speech understood by opponents said that repetition repetition of questions and answers from speakers. Thus it needed the ability to speak good and right within the meaning of lexical, grammatical and contextual.
