Abstract

The research objective was to describe the learning outcomes of students in learning science using a problem solving approach in class V SDN 13 Bukit Kaciak. This type of research is classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings and one final exam cycle. Based on the results of student learning cognitive aspects of knowledge and understanding of the material that has been studied in cycle I and II, obtained the percentage of completeness of students in the first cycle with an average value of 74.90 with 72.72% mastery learning and increased in the second cycle to 84 , second with 86.36% completeness. Furthermore, based on the observation sheet affective aspects of students in the first cycle and the second cycle, the percentage obtained by the students in a discussion activity in cycle I 56.51% increase to 84.78% in cycleII. This means, by using a constructivist approach can improve student learning outcomes. Based on these results, the researchers suggested that teachers can use the approach to problem solving in science teaching to improve student learning outcomes. Researchers recommended that the application of problem solving approach to learning, activity should divide students into groups conducted in early learning, so that students engaged and can save time.
