CHARACTERIZATIONS IN THE NOVEL DARI TANAH HARAM KE RANAH MINANG BY UMMUKI: AN APPROACH TO FEMINISM

ABSTRACT

The research was distributed by the interest of researchers towards novel From Tanah Haram to Ranah Minang by Ummuki, especially the problem of feminism expressed by the author through the figures of the women. This research aimed to describe aspects of feminism that is contained in the novel From Tanah Haram to Ranah Minang by Ummuki. The theory used in this study are a theory advanced by Hakeem (2006) and Hearty (2011). This type of research is qualitative research was methods descriptive, the object of research in the form of long exposure or character dialogue. Technique of data analysis is; (1) collecting data, (2) grouping of data which relate to aspects of violence, oppression, politics, social, culture, women's consciousness, (3) analyze data related to violence, oppression, politics, cultural and social awareness of women, (4) Summing up the results of the data analysis to look at the existing trend in the novel. The results showed aspects of feminism that lifted by the author covers aspects of violence, repression, cultural, social, and consciousness of women. The story in the novel portrays a woman who struggles against violence, suppression, as well as the search for the truth so that it no longer oppressed and gain rights as women. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that aspects of feminism that is found in the novel From Tanah Haram to Ranah Minang by ummuki in the form of be violent aspects, aspects of repression, cultural aspects, social aspects and aspects of consciousness.
