A sample of 32 students was evaluated with an inter-rater reliability of 0.88. Results showed moderate overall ability (62.5%). Students demonstrated superior ability in Content (87.5%) and Vocabulary (78%), but severe deficiencies in Grammar (53.13% very low) and Mechanics (40.5% low/very low). Consequently, teachers must prioritize structured practice on simple present tense rules and punctuation. Future studies should conduct qualitative error analysis to diagnose the underlying causes of these persistent low scores.

Key words: writing ability, recount text, orientation, language features, mechanics
2026-03-09T00:00:00+00:00Hak Cipta (c) 2026 https://ejurnal.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/JFKIP/article/view/29565AN ANALYSIS OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO COMPREHEND DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT SMAN 17 PADANG2026-03-10T15:51:27+00:00Nindi Rahma Putrinindirahmaputri16@gmail.com
ABSTRACT

Reading comprehension is an essential skill in learning English as a foreign language.
