Abstract

To reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce adverse impacts on the environment, research needs to be done
on energy sources, especially those that are renewable and environmentally friendly. Ethanol can be used as
main fuel or mixed fuel. So the use of fossil fuels can be displaced in the presence of this ethanol fuel. ethanol is
one form of renewable energy that can be produced from plants. So the use of fossil fuels can be displaced in the
presence of this ethanol fuel. However, plant fuels have a disadvantage that affects the performance of a
combustion engine, such as the Cetane Number, etc. This study will show how the effect of changes in engine
and fuel performance used Dexlite and Ethanol. The study was started by mixing Dexlite fuel with variation of
0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% Ethanol percentage, with 0 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg, 4 kg. The results of the research
showed best mixture of fuel on D95E5 with SFC 3.53 kg/kW.h, and Thermal Efficiency on D80E20 mixture with
6,99%.
