Abstract

Refill drinking water depot is one of the alternativesto accommodate drinking water demands in Padang city. But drinking water from depots is still contaminated by pathogenic bacteria. Plasma technology was found to be one of the way to produce safely consumed drinking water in terms of health aspects due to in the process the equipment does not come into contact with the raw water directly. This study was aims to investigate the combination of microfiltration and continue radio frequency plasma technology in producing drinking water. Samples collected from Kuranji were filtered using a 5 and 1 μm cartridge filterfollowed by plasma system atfrequency ± 1.9 MHz through a glass reactor with a thickness of 2 mm wounded by a 1 mm copper wire. The results of the study showed that the removal of Fecal Coliform, Total Coliform, and Salmonella was 87-100%, 90-100%, and 100%, respectively.
