ABSTRACT

Gamma alumina catalyst (γ-Al2O3) was evaluated for performance of free fatty acid esterification (FFA) reactions of PFAD. This study aims to determine the performance of gamma alumina catalysts against the reduction of Free Fatty Acids (FFA), and studied the operating conditions ratio of methanol / oil volume 1,7; 2; 2,3 (v/v) and the weight ratio of catalyst 3; 4; 5 (gr). The results showed maximum FFA conversion of PFAD esterification reactions with variation of methanol/oil ratio and variation of catalyst weight were 84,72% and 82,8% respectively. The optimum conditions for methanol / oil ratio of 2 (v/v) with conversion of 84,14%, and the optimum conditions for variations weight of catalysts were achieved at the weight of 4gr with conversion of 82,07% with a reaction time 7 hours and temperature of 60°C.
