Abstract

Powder metallurgy technology (Powder Metallurgy) is a metal processing technology that has been widely used and developed in manufacturing, both for making components of ferrous and non ferrous materials. Methods of powder prosessing chemical reactions, mechanical fabrication and atomization. Generally the process of powder metallurgy in cluded, some of powders from pure or alloy material are compacted in a mold, then sintered or heated in a furnace at a certain temperature until bonding occurs between the powder particles. This study aims to determine the formation process of aluminum scrap, and test the hardness of  the  result of powder metallurgy based on the pressure and sintering temperature, and determine the recommended procedure for the powder metallurgy aluminum scrap forming process. The first procedure carried out in this experiment is to take grinded aluminum pieces with dimensions of 325 mesh and a maximum particle size of 45 μm with a specimen size of 20 mm in diameter and 1 cm in height. After press 14 kg and 20 kg, then the specimens were heated in the furnace with a temperature of 300 ºC, 400 ºC, 500 ºC, 600 ºC. After heating spesiment in the furnace then do hardness testing. The result of the studi shown at the pressure of 14 kg obtained the highest hardness value at temperature 600 ºC with the heating time of 60 minutes value is 73,3 HS, and at the pressure of 20 kg obtained the highest hardness value at temperature 500 ºC with the heating time of 60 minute value is 76,4 HS.
