Abstract

Gambir is an industrial olant commodity that has high economic value and has good prospects for Indonesian farmers and suppliers of foreign countries such as India, Malaysia, and Japan. Gambier processed commercial or traditional products generally contain a variety of catechins, so more handling is needed in order to obtain high purity. Besides catechins there are also tannins that are contained in gambier. Tannins which are difficult to separate from catechins make this treatment requires many methods sotaht the purify of the catechins gets higher without consumsing expensive costs. Catechin purification through the extraction process can usually reduce tannin levels by 24% - 2%. A very good type of solvent in the purification of these catechins is acetic acid which can produce up to 99% catechin levels compared to alcohol, which 95%. This research aims to optimized the purification of catechin in the pre-purification stage using water solvents. Catechin levels obtained with the optimal conditions of 83.03% were carried outduring 1.5 hours of heating with 2 times washing with a yield of 30.71%.
