Pembuatan Katalis Berbasis Biomassa Cangkang Karet untuk Esterifikasi Minyak Jelantah
Abstract
Rubber shells are agricultural wastes which have abundant availability but are not utilized optimally so that they are only economically worthless waste.Even though rubber shells have high fiber and carbon content so that it is potentially used as a raw material for making catalysts for esterification / transesterification of free fatty acids used cooking triglyceride oil. Making catalysts is done by combustion and without combustion and soaking variations using H2SO4 and KOH then calcined in the furnace at a temperature of 430 for 1 hour. After that, the esterification of FFA used cooking oil was tested so that a good catalyst was obtained Catalysts of rubber shells without combustion by immersion using H2SO4.To obtain the optimum conditions in the esterification of used cooking oil the weight of the catalyst is varied (0.1 gr, 0.2 gr, 0.3 gr, 0.4 gr),comparison of oil: methanol (1: 1,3, 1: 1,5, 1: 1,7) and time variations (1 hour, 3 hours, 5 hours) From these variations the optimum conditions were obtained at catalyst weight of 0.3 gr, oil: methanol ratio 1.5 and reaction time of 1 hour with conversion of 88.89% and yield of 93.33%.
