Abstract

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon winterianus) is one of the herbs, commonly used as a spice in cooking, and medicine. Lemongrass oil is commonly used for mosquito repellents, citronella oil can also be used as medicinal ingredients, for example: can stretch stiff muscles, and as an appetite enhancer. Essential oils from lemongrass can be produced by various methods, one of which is extraction method. The advantage of this method is that it does not require high temperatures, so the oil will not be easily damaged. In this study fragrant lemongrass samples came from plantations in the district of Laiang, Solok. This study aims to determine the yield of oil from the position of fragrant lemongrass (10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm from the root) using 2 types of solvents (n-hexane and ethanol), extraction time for 4 hours. The most oil yield obtained at the position of 10 cm from the root using ethanol solvent of 0.25%, and in the n-hexane solvent by 0.12%.
