This research aims to study the optimal substrate for producing hydrogen gas from sugarcane solid waste. The raw materials used in this research are sugarcane solid waste, cow dung and water with a ratio of 1: 1: 2; 2: 1: 2; 3: 1: 2; 4: 1: 2. Sugarcane solid waste is processed first through a chemical pretreatment process, namely by delignification for 5 hours using 6% NaOH solution at a temperature of T = 121°C so that cellulose and hemicellulose are obtained. After that, cellulose and hemicellulose in sugarcane solid waste were hydrolyzed for 30 minutes using a 0.5 N HCl solution at a temperature of T = 121°C. After that, the fermentation process is carried out using E. coli bacteria found in cow dung for 6 days with a pH = 7. The results showed that the optimal production of hydrogen gas was found in the raw material ratio of 4: 1: 2 which occurred on the 4th day of 69.407%.References
