Abstract

Solok Regency is an area that is mostly engaged in agriculture, one of the most widely produced agricultural products is shallots. Shallots produced from Solok district will be sent to various regions in West Sumatra, one of which is the city of Padang, in the city of Padang, shallots are widely used for various food preparations as fried onions used for topping on food. The high market demand for fried onions requires MSMEs to provide fried onions as much as the market demand. However, the production of fried onions at MSMEs is still done manually, one of which is in the peeling of the onions which can only be done as much as 400 kg in 8 hours of work so that they cannot meet market demand in providing fried onions to facilitate and accelerate the peeling of the onions, so the design of auxiliary devices is carried out. The design of an onion peeler using a rational method, from the design of the tool that has been done, it is obtained an onion peeler with a capacity of 20 kg in 5 minutes. From the comparison of time by manual and assistive tools, this tool is recommended for the use of MSMEs in order to reach and meet market demand for fried onions from the onion stripping process.
