Abstract

In this study made a composite material which in this study used coconut coir fiber and polyester resin with a random arrangement. In making the specimen using a mold and in the test used was a tensile test and impact test with the standard used in tensile testing was ASTM D 638-03 and the standard in impact testing is the ASTM D265 standard. The purpose of this study was to determine the tensile strength and impact strength of the coconut fiber composite material to be used for the hull of fishing vessels. In this study, three different compositions were used. -different from the volume fraction 15% fiber 85% resin, 25% fiber 75 resin, 35% fiber 65% resin. The results of testing the coconut fiber composite material on tensile and impact strength where the best value of the three compositions is obtained at composition 25 % fiber 75% resin with the value obtained is 74.9130Mpa and for the impact value of 23.838 J/mm2. It can be concluded that the best fiber from three different compositions is in the volume fraction composition of 25% fiber 75% resin.
