Abstract

Antibacterial soaps on the market use chemical active substances that can cause side effects if used in the long term.Soap that is commonly favored by the public is soap with herbal anti-bacterial properties with various benefits. Lemongrass oil contains citronella which can play an active role in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aerus bacteria. So research on the manufacture of antibacterial soap from citronella essential oil as an antibacterial, with variable KOH concentrations varied (20%, 30%, and 40%) and variable triglyceride concentrations varied (100% lemongrass oil; 80% lemongrass oil: 20% hydrosol; lemongrass oil 50% : hydrosol 50%; citronella oil 20% : hydrosol 80%; hydrosol 100% ) at temperature 80° C. The results of the soap were then analyzed which included the yield of soap, pH test, free alkali content test, and bacterial effectiveness test. The resulting soap was analyzed and compared with the quality standard of soap (SNI 06-3532-1994).
