Abstract

Hand sanitizer is a liquid or gel that is generally used to reduce pathogens on the hands. This hand sanitizer in circulation has a weakness in the form of the basic ingredient, namely ethyl alcohol which makes hands dry and causes dehydration of the skin, so hand antiseptics containing safe natural ingredients are needed. This study aims to obtain hand sanitizers from natural ingredients to replace H2O2 (guava leaves/soursop leaves/betel leaves/lime juice) and glycerol (aloe vera). The benefit of this research is that it is hoped that the public will obtain information about how to produce hand sanitizers by utilizing natural ingredients to replace the function of H2O2 and glycerol. In this study, the fixed variables were 96% ethanol, distilled water, and glycerol substitute (aloe vera) with the parameters of the H2O2 function substitute (betel leaf/guava leaf/soursop leaf/lime juice) and the mass of the sample substituted for the H2O2 function (5 grams, 10 grams, 15 grams, 20 grams, and 25 grams). The results obtained that the diameter of the highest inhibitory power on the substitute for the H2O2 function of betel leaf is 12 mm with a sample mass of 5 grams.
