Abstract

Phenol is a compound that ia toxic and corrosive to the skin (irritant) and at certain concentrations that can cause health problem in human to death on microorganisms. Various methods are used to remove phenol fom wastewater such as: adsorption by using activited carbon, chemical oxidation and biological process. Examination of wastewater treatment containing phenolic compounds has shown that adsorption by activited carbon is concidered the most potent technique. Adsorption is a process of absorption by certain solids againts certain substance that occur on the surface of solid due to the attraction of atoms or molecules on the surface of solid. Research on phenol reduction in river water aims to produce river water in accordance with river water quality standard as well as study performance to activited carbon. The result obstain from this research are absorption efficiency using GAC-2 of 99.5% and adsorption capacity reaches 76.4 mg/g.
