Abstract

Garbage is one of the most serious environmental problems faced by the people of Indonesia and the world. Garbage if continuously piled up will cause odors and other environmental problems. One solution to overcome this is by composting using maggot. Maggot is a black soldier fly larvae that has the ability to reduce organic waste. This study aims to determine the effect of baby maggot's age in degrading waste. This research was conducted in the Bung Hatta University campus 3 environment. From the data obtained, the appropriate age of maggot in reducing waste is at the age of 6 days with a total of 40 maggots, the weight of the waste is 1000 gr in 18 days the remaining waste is 300 grams with a waste reduction index (WRI) value of 3.89% and survival rate (SR) is 95%
