Abstract

This study focuses on the design of a ram mechanism for a metal forging machine aimed at supporting
small-scale industries, particularly blacksmith workshops. The research is motivated by the low efficiency
and productivity of manual forging processes, which require significant time and labor. The design is
centered on the ram mechanism as the primary component that transfers impact energy to the workpiece,
with the goal of producing an effective, efficient, and economical system. The methodology includes
literature review, theoretical calculations of component strength, material selection (ASTM A36 and AISI
1020), and modeling using design software. Technical analysis was conducted on key components such as
bearing mounts and ram arms to determine tensile stress, shear stress, and safety factors. The design
results show that all components possess high safety factors, indicating safe operation under the analyzed
loads. The developed ram mechanism is capable of improving forging process efficiency, reducing
operator workload, and producing higher-quality forged metal products. Therefore, this design has the
potential to serve as an effective solution for small-scale industries to enhance productivity and product
quality.
