Abstract

Fatigue or exhaustion is a form of failure that occurred in the structure due to fluctuating dynamic loads that occur below the yield strength for a long time and repeatedly (Darmawan, 1995). Fatigue occupy 90% of the primary causes of malfunctions (Darmawan, 1995). There are three phases in a fatigue fracture: the beginning of the crack, the spread of cracks and fractures. Mechanism of cracking generally starts from the beginning of the crack initiation that occurs on the surface of the material that is weak or area where there is stress concentration at the surface (such as scratches, notches, hole-pits, etc.) due to repetitive loading. Furthermore, is the spread of these cracks developing into microcracks. Microcracks propagation or blend is then formed macrocracks which will lead to failure. Then after that, the material will undergo what is called a fracture. Fracture occurs when the material has undergone cycles of stress and strain that results in permanent damage. (Darmawan, 1995) The purpose of this study was to determine fatigue fatigue strength rear axle motorcycle yamaha jupiter Z.
