Abstract

At the present time the fuel into the primary needs and its use tends to increase every year while

petroleum fuel source used dwindling. Therefore need of alternative materials that can be used as a substitute for petroleum. Bioethanol can be used as an alternative fuel to address the need for fuel at this point. Bioethanol is a liquid fermented carbohydrates using microorganisms rock. Carbohydrates are used in this study came from sago. The purpose of this test is to obtain a comparison of the performance of the internal combustion engine fueled by a mixture of fuel pertalite pertalite - bioethanol sago. From the test results obtained optimum conditions is 10% bio-ethanol mix. Diamana fuel consumption (sfc) pertalite greater than to those on fuel gasohol 10 at 2.23%. Comparison while Air Fuel (AFR) is higher than the fuel pertalite amounted to 2.19%. As well as to the greater thermal efficiency compared with pertalite of 6.1%, due to the mixing of gasohol 10 has better combustion as compared to the combustion of pure pertalite. It can be concluded that the addition of ethanol can increase air and fuel ratio (AFR) and engine thermal efficiency and lower specific fuel consumption.

Keywords: fuel consumption, bioethanol sago, pertalite, gasohol.
