Abstract
Pretreatment is one of the important steps in bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass to produce bioethanol. Pretreatment, called by delignification process, is needed to remove lignin content from biomass and therefore enhance the productivity of bioethanol conversion. In this study, delignification was carried out in mixture solution from ammonium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide at a mild condition (25oC and 1 atm) for various time of pretreatment (0.5, 1, 2, 5, 24, 48 hrs, 7 and 9 days). The results indicate that about 90 wt% lignin was removed with the mix solution in 24 hrs. The sodium hydroxide and ammonia mixture solution shown the better result for delignification process compare to use them separately. Furthermore, the success of this initial processing can also be analyzed through an increase in the digestibility of cellulose by enzymes in advanced process (the process of saccharification / hydrolysis). The results showed that the duration of immersion in the pretreatment affects the degree of enzyme digestibility. In accordance with the theory of reaction kinetics, then the longer soaking the degree of digestibility is also greater. This is evidenced by the greatest degree of digestibility obtained in immersion for 9 days. At the beginning of treatment for 24 hours, the amount of glucose acquisition saccharification result amounted to 462 mg / dL by using a mixed solution of Ammonium hydroxide and Sodium hydroxide as a reagent delignification. It can be concluded that the use of a mixture of Ammonium hydroxide and NaOH solution showed better results for the delignification process and enhance the enjoyment of glucose.
