ABSTRACT

Research of biodiesel which continue to grow todayis expected to find sources of raw materials derived from oils or fats of non-food crops. Therefore, in this study conducted experiment of make methyl esters from seed oils bintaro with acidic heterogeneous catalyst. Bintaro seed oil are extracted using a solvent n-neksana for 4 hours. The oil can be extracted from the seeds bintaro approximately 53.22% of the weight of the dry powder. Potential catalysts sulfonated gamma alumina is done through the process of esterification reaction bintaro seed oil with the help of gamma alumina catalyst. The optimum conditions of esterfication reaction of bintaro seed oil wasobtained on a  ratio volume  oil to methanol (1:12), ratio gamma alumina catalyst to oil 0,.5%b/v, and reaction time 60 minutes. Remained  free fatty acids is 0.72%.
