Abstract

Pump piping system is most common system in any society, industry, and chemical plants. Nowadays, pump piping is used in almost twenty percent of piping in the world. The main thing that the attention of the engineer in pump piping is the low allowable load of the pumps. Additionally, load and stress imposed from the piping system to theconnecting equipment(pump) can have a considerable influence to the reliability of the pumps. In this research will discuss about how to optimize the design of piping systems to improve the reliability of the pump. The research will be carried out by making modifications to the piping system layout, by using assist software CAESAR II, and use the ASME B31.1 standard to analyze the magnitude of the load and stress that occur in piping systems. By doing modifications, succeeded in reducing thestress that occurs in the piping system. From the results of the simulation, it can be seen that the safety limit stress the pipe material used in piping systems that have been modified are of 11.2 MPa with allowable loadis 117.9 MPa.
