Abstract

Welding is the splicing of two metal or metal alloy by providing good heat above or below the melting point of the metal either with or without pressure and plus or without filler metal. Welding current is the amount of electric welding or electrical current flow out of the welding machine. Large current for welding depends on the type of welding wire used, welding position and the thickness of the base material or thick workpiece to be welded. The strength of the weld 80 A, 90 A, 100 A will affect the outcome of the weld strength and changing the mechanical properties of the material. Microstructure observation aiming to whether there is a change in the weld microstructure with variations of electric current during the welding process. Microstructure observation and tests performed on specimens taken at three points of the raw material, HAZ area and the welding area. SMAW welding uses the material structural steel ST 37. The testing procedure using a material testing standard ASTM E08 test. The test material is by tensile testing to determine the tensile strength of the material and microstructure testing done to see and analyze the deformation of the atomic structure as a result of current variation during the welding process. Electrodes used E 6013 due to this electrode is suitable for welding in steel ST 37 were categorized as low carbon steel. The welding process consists of 11 procedures based planning welding connection.
