Abstract

Biodiesel is usually made by the transesterification process using an alkaline catalyst, but oils with high free fatty acid like rubber seed oil use the esterification process.This study was investigate the capability of a heterogeneous catalyst γ-alumina sulfonated acid at remain FFA of esterification reaction.The variation this research are ratio of methanol oil (v/v), ratio of catalyst to oil (w/v) and reaction temperature on esterification reaction of rubber seed oil. The results showed that the operating conditions to give the smallest FFA content are the ratio of oil to methanol 1.2 v/v, the reaction temperature  60 ° C and the ratio of catalyst to oil 1.67%-w/vuntil 4.5 hour.
