Abstract

ABSTRACT

       Glycerol ether is the result of the conversion of glycerol etherification process. The functions of glycerol ether is an additive used to blending component on diesel fuel and to increase quality standards of diesel fuel. The method of increasing quality standards of diesel fuel is by lowering cloud point and pour point. Where the cloud point and pour point in a condition that can causing engine damage like a crystallization. The etherification process used gamma-alumina catalyst to accelerate the reaction between glycerol and alcohol. Result of the research showed that ratio volume of glycerol and methanol 18:18, 27:27, 36:36 did not obtained glycerol ether product.
