Abstrak

ABSTRACT
. This study aims to: (1) describe application of the language politeness principles and (2) the form of
mixed code in the utterance of teachers in the process of learning Indonesian language class VII SMP
Negeri 12 Kerinci, Jambi. The theory used are the opinion expressed by Leech's (in Syahrul, 2008) about
the directive speech act, the type of directive speech act, and Wijaya (2009) about the context of speech
situations. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The data collection technique
is done by recording and transcribing the teacher's speech in the learning process into a writing, analyzing
the teacher's speech in the learning process by grouping the type of speech acts of teacher directive in the
learning process, then classifying the teacher's speech in the learning process into the data collection
table. Based on the results of the study it found that: (1) there were 10 speeches consisting of 7 data of
formalities of language civility, 2 data of indecisiveness civilities, and 1 data of similarity and there were
quotes that mixed code. The dominant use by teachers in the learning process of Junior High School 12
Kerinci, Jambi is a rule of politeness formalities.
