Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the density, relative frequency, frequency of presence, species diversity index and plankton in the brackish waters of the Batang Naras River and find out the quality conditions of the brackish waters of the Batang Naras River. The study was conducted from April to May 2018 in the brackish waters of the Batang Naras River, Padang Pariaman and in the Bung Hatta University Biology laboratory. To establish the sampling station the sample uses the proposive sampling method by setting 4 research stations, namely: Meeting of fresh water with sea water TPI (Fish Auction Place) Mangrove Forest.

From the observations of plankton, the types of phytoplankton obtained consisted of 5 class namely Bacillaryophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Chyanophyceae, Dinophyceae and Euglenophyceae which consisted of 74 species. While the zooplankton group consists of 8 types. The highest Plankton abundance is found in station 3 with a total individual of 20,571 individuals / liter which is in the Mangrove area, while the lowest abundance is in station II with a total of 5,893 individuals / liter namely TPI. Phytoplankton diversity index values for stations for ranges from 2.75 - 2.92. This shows that the average index of diversity of all stations shows a value that is not much different. Relative density (KR) is highest in Synedra ulna species, namely 16.15 found in station III of Mangrove Forest location. The highest frequency of presence (FK) is found in species with frequency of presence, namely Cosmarium contractum species, spirogyra fluviatis, Ulothrix zonata, Chroococus limneticus, Tracelomonas abrupta with a frequency of 100%. From water quality pH 7, DO 5.9 ppm - 6.3 ppm, Salinity 15-20 ppt, Nitrate 0.05 ppm - 0.44 ppm, Phosphate 0.006 ppm - 0.28 ppm, Ammonia 0.12 ppm - 0 , 27 ppm, Brightness 7-8 meters and Temperature 29.5 - 31.5 ℃. Based on the quality standard of sea water for marine biota from MENLH (State Minister of Environment) in 2004, all stations can be said to be good and feasible for cultivation activities. From the results of plankton abundance in brackish waters of Batang Naras River is a waters with fertile waters trophic status (Eutrophic)
