Abstract

Abstract

This research was about population of clam (Tridacna sp) and their habitat in Pasumpahan Island waters, Padang city. This study aims to determine the density and the spread of clams, as well as to know the condition of clams habitat around Pasumpahan Island. The research method used is descriptive. The Data was collected by survey. The monitoring was done in three stations, in three deepness. They are station 1 (north), station 2 (east) and station 3 (south). In the deepness 1, 2 and 5 meter. In each station and deepness was done Line Intersept Transect (LIT) with spreading the meter out parallel with beach. The observation is done at each 1 meter on the right and left lines of the transect through 70 meters. From the result of this research, found 69 clam that consisted of three species, namly Tridacna squamosa, T. Maxima and T. Crocea. In station 3 the calm was at most found from Tridacna squamosa  species. The average value of the density of its kind was Tridacna squamosa (0.06 individuals/m2), Tridacna maxima (0.05 individuals/m2), and Tridacna crocea (0.02 individuals/m2). Species dispersion pattern of clams results i.e. Tridacna squamosa with IM (0.46), Tridacna maxima IM with value (-0.0097), and Tridacna crocea IM with value (-0.0117). Generally, clam found on massive dan submassive corals. Water quality of Pasumpahan Island support clams habitat with a good temperature (30.33 0C), brightness (5 meters), sanilitas (33.33 0/00), pH (8), Nitrates (0.32 Mg/l), and posfat (0.18 Mg/l).
