Abstract

This study aims to determine the composition of mangrove existing structures around
the Gulf Coast region in South Nias in North Sumatra province that includes the type, density,
frequency, dominance, and importance of existing mangroves. The method used is the
"purposive sampling plot" is set transect study based on density and differences in biophysical
conditions (substrate, the location of the mangrove, mangrove species) by setting the number
of transects totaling 3 research station. With the size of each plot is for the mangrove tree
level structure of 10 x 10 m, to the structure of mangrove saplings rate of 5 x 5 m, and to the
structure of mangrove seedlings 1 x 1 m. Mangrove species that exist around the coastal areas
in the Gulf consists of 3 family 4 mangrove species included in the study transect is
Myrsinaceae (Aegiceras corniculatum), Rhizophoraceae (Rhizophora apiculata), and
Sonneratiacea (Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia casiolaris). The results of the analysis to the 3
stations each average value of KR, FR, DR, and NP to the structure of mangrove tree level is
A. corniculatum 11.09%, 9.92%, 12.48% and 33.49%. R. apiculata 52.67%, 44.54%, 49.68%,
and 146.89%. S. alba 19.08%, 23.82%, 20.11% and 63.01%. S. casiolaris 17.16%, 21.72%,
17.73%, and 56.61%. For the structure of mangrove saplings rate (sapling) is A. corniculatum
12.05%, 18.97%, 14.38% and 45.40%. R. apiculata 59.88%, 34.81%, 49.41% and 144.12%. S.
alba 13.82%, 22.00%, 17.31% and 53.13%. S. casiolaris 14.25%, 24.22%, 18.88%, and
57.35%. For the structure of mangrove seedlings A. corniculatum 14.88%, 22.83% and
37.71%. R. apiculata 55.69%, 36.78% and 92.47%. S. alba 13.72%, 20.27%, and 33.99%. S.
casiolaris 15.71%, 20.12% and 35.83%.
