Abstract

This paper studies about problems related to function of learning literature and culture in elementary students’ character building. The background of the problem is the problem which is experienced by our nation nowadays, it is related to demoralization of society whether it happens in the social life of ordinary people or official people. This problem can be solved through reinforcement of generation’s understanding in learning literature and culture because both of these components study about the problem of human and their social environment. Therefore, it should be implemented since the students are in level of elementary school. The problem solvings are as follow, (1) applying the learning literature in character building of elementary students, whether it is applied in educational or family environment to build students’ characters,  (2) applying the learning culture in elementary students’ character education, (3) optimalizing the function of literature and culture in the students’ character building. Therefore, by applying these problem solvings, it is expected that it will create people’s life which has value and character,  so the generation who has character can build NKRI that have value in their social life.
