AN ANALYSIS OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACT IN THE MOVIE CINDERELLA 2015

Abstract

This research aims to discuss one of the basic elements in pragmatic that is speech act directive which focuses on types of directive speech act in Cinderella 2015 movie and context that influences the types of directive speech act in the movie. This research classified and described the types and the context of directive speech act in Cinderella 2015 movie. The data were collected from the utterances of characters in Cinderella 2015 movie. This study uses qualitative method in describing and explaining the results. The writer found four types of directive speech act in this movie: (1) requesting, (2) suggesting, (3) commanding and (4) asking. Then, there are four types of context that influence the types of directive speech act. They are physical context, epistemic context, linguistic context, and social context. The epistemic context is more dominant to influence the types of directive act in this movie.
